What is Titanikel Plating?

Titanikel plating is a sophisticated technology developed by Hyway, involving a blend of titanium and nickel applied through a high-temperature steam plating process. This method uses temperatures of 900 to 1000 degrees Celsius to create a robust, wear-resistant surface perfect for engine components.

Titanikel Plating Process:

The process starts with multi-composite electroplating, coating the cylinder with a titanium-nickel composite. After plating, the surface is polished with diamond tools to achieve an exceptionally smooth finish due to titanium's high strength.

Benefits of Titanikel Plating:

  • High Temperature Resistance: Can handle extreme temperatures, ensuring the cylinder remains intact under heavy use
  • Durability: The titanium-nickel combination enhances wear resistance, significantly extending cylinder life
  • Chemical Resistance: Titanium's natural resistance protects against environmental factors
  • Smooth Operation: Ultra-smooth finish reduces friction, improving efficiency and reducing wear on other components
  • Optimal Strength-to-Weight Ratio: Balances high strength and low weight, crucial for chainsaw performance

1 of 5 Unacceptable in Two Ways July 18, 2020
Reviewer: Toons from Hertford, NC United States
I purchased this kit to put into my Husqvarna 350 that I ran too hot and destroyed the piston.  I purchased this kit because I thought that the price indicated that it was higher quality than the $40 kits that I saw.  I was wrong.  After installation, the flywheel actually rubbed the side of the cylinder so hard that it would not turn.  There is no way that the cylinder can be installed with a misalignment because of the tight tolerances on the head bolts.  This is just a bad casting or a very bad casting design.  I had to uninstall and file down the edge of my flywheel to make it work.  Additionally, the cylinder on the 350 has an upper and lower part.  No gasket was provided.  It does come with the $40 kits.  The casting is not identical to the original.  The original is made of separate parts that are bolted together.   Again, the $40 kits have this same feature.  Finally, the finished machine is hard to start and does not run as strong as it did.   $ does not equal quality.

3 of 5 Hyway Husqvarna 350 Nikasil plated cylinder September 23, 2019
Reviewer: Anonymous Person from Ocala, FL United States
My local repair center agreed to install the Nikasil plated cylinder that I purchased for my Husqvarna 350 chain saw.  It was a successful repair however,...

Afterwards, I discovered this and it gives me concern.

" with Nikasil cylinder bore linings are particularly vulnerable to fuel (gasoline or petrol) with a high sulfur content.

The sulfur in the fuel breaks up the Nikasil lining in the cylinders, thus causing a loss of compression. Once the lining is damaged, excessive bore wear of the soft, underlying alloy occurs very quickly. Some Nikasil engines have failed in as little as 30,000 miles. And the effect is cumulative, so if the engine has ever been run on high sulfur fuel, the damage may already have been done and premature bore wear may result.

Some symptoms of the Nikasil problem are rough running at idle and difficult cold starting, both due to loss of compression. In severe cases, the loss of compression is so bad that the engine loses power."
